Some staged pics prior to a game of TANKS in 1/48 scale.
« on: June 11, 2017, 12:46:09 AM »
From our latest gaming day.
These pictures were taken just before our latest game of TANKS.
Other than the AAV7A1 ( it's resin), all of them started life as cheap motorized model kits from China or Japan. With some minor modifications and some stowage kits from BlackDog CZ and they are good to go for table-top gaming. The M1A1HC required the most work since I had to scratch build the APU, extended bustle rack and the Marine Corps specific smoke grenade launchers.

I've been busy building/painting all winter and am way behind on getting pictures taken. here is a teaser shot of my 1/48 scale tanks, with a few 1/72nd and 1/56th scale tanks photo-bombing the shot.

Great pictures and a most impressive collection. Do you have the troops to go with all these tanks or do you just do tank battles?

I have  quite a few 1/48 figures, but I absolutely suck at painting people/infantry.
Almost all of them are still in their boxes and bags waiting for me to get around to them. If ever.

I did pick up some modern Chinese infantry to go along with my Chinese tanks from Empress and they are beautiful. The tanks are all finished, but the infantry are still bagged. :(

Good grief, that's some collection!  :o 8) 8) 8)
How do you manage to dust them? I'm serious, that's a major problem here with any models left outside a closed cabinet.

Ah dusting....Since these are all in the man cave, that task falls squarely on me. the wife seldom does anything but stick here head in the door when we are gaming and she won't touch anything! :)
So, I do it the quick and easy way with canned air and my shop-vac. Spray the models with one hand while holding the vac nozzle in the other.
It works great except anything that came loose from use tends to get blown off and sucked up. Checking each model after a gaming session has reduced that to a very rare occurrence.

As for the size of the collection, I've been building models for almost 50 years. Most of the 1/35th scale collection was sold off yeas ago prior to a move, but the stuff we can game with on the table-top remains. My Battletech collection is equally as large, but seldom sees much use anymore.  Only my larger N-scale mechs see any table time. At my age, the smaller 1/285th stuff is just too hard to see and keep track of on an 8' x 4' table.

Thanks, sounds like a good way to do it.
Must take a while, it's a grand collection you have there.  8) 8) 8)

These are my latest 1/48 tanks. They are both from Empress and are beautiful kits.
A ZTZ-99 MBT and a ZDB-05 AAV.
They join  an existing force of Chinese motorized kits made 20+ years ago by AA Models and a couple of 'captured/reverse engineered'  JGSDF Type 90 MBT's that have been press ganged into the PLAN.
I'll try to get a family photo taken and posted later today.

Those are really good.

The AAV looks enormous, does it count as a corvette?

It is a huge vehicle.
And fast on the water as well. Much faster than our current USMC AAV's.
There is even a direct fire support version that mounts a stabilized 105mm gun that can be fired while it is on the water.
It's kinda scary to see the modern Chinese amphib capability now that the U.S.M.C. dropped it's advanced AAV program a few years back and is concentration on keeping the old AAV-7's viable for the near future.

What a load of tanks.
Would love to see some more close ups .
Any numbers on the tanks in the different time periods?

As requested, The 1/285th Battletech collection as of a few years ago.
It is slightly smaller today.

The N-scale/1/200 collection. Pretty much all I game with these days.
