Zvezda 1/200 Bristol Blenheim Mk.IV
« on: 30 July 2017, 04:58:11 AM »

This is the 1/200 scale Bristol Blenheim Mk.IV from Zvezda, and the last addition to my early WWII air forces for a while.

Regrettably, Zvezda are more concerned with making their models fit a standard box size than with maintaining a constant scale, so this model is considerably smaller than its companion Fairey Battle, when in fact it should be just a little bit larger — about another 5-10 mm wingspan. It's an annoyance, but I can live with it since its function is to be a gaming marker. Still, I'd have preferred it if it was in 1/144 scale, like all the other aircraft.

I haven't included a bottom view, as it's just overall black without any markings at all, standard livery for RAF day bombers in 1939-40.

Now that's a cracker! Only possible improvement would be to demarcate the flaps using a Gundam pen. Jolly useful bit of kit the old grey Gundam pen.

...or just brush and paint.

Very nice job there. :) 1/200th is a very odd scale indeed. What do you use the model for? :)

15mm WWII 1939-40 France. Mainly Bolt Action until recently, but I've transferred my affections to Battlegroup Blitzkrieg now, which is much better for combined-arms gaming.

Thanks for this series of posts showing your builds of Zvezda aircraft kits. I have a shoe box full of these kits, unbuilt, and I'm interested to see how they turned out for you. You do excellent work with these fairly basic models. I'm disappointed to see that Zvezda can't seem to do RAF fuselage roundels correctly. This yellow circle is also off-register on the Blenheim. It's odd. The red-white-blue parts of all the roundels look fine, but they just can't line that yellow circle up correctly. 'Sup wid dat?

Also, the fin flash is out of register. Hmm. Could be an opportunity for after-market decals for the Zvezda Hurricane and Blenheim. Are you reading this, Dom?
