Test of honour. palace guard ashigaru and ronin.
« on: August 01, 2017, 10:47:56 AM »
I treated myself to the test of honour starter box and am now working my way through the contents of it. rather than overwhelm myself and have another box on the unpainted pile, I decided to start with just the mini's needed for the starter scenario.

So far i'm about 4 hours in and have 1 Ashigaru and 1 samurai done.I'm trying not to lavish too much time on them with the aim that i will probably swap them out for other minis or start converting up my own heroes later down the line.
As with most new miniatures i spent more time on the first figure, in this case the Ashigaru in order to get to grips with them and figure out how i wanted to paint them.

never trust a horse, they make a commitment to shoes that no animal should make.

cheers chaps!
The 1st scenario calls for two teams of 1 samurai, 3 ashigaru spear and 3 ashigaru archer, so hopefully i should have something that resembles a completed warband done by the weekend!

very cool start. I'm quite enamoured by those triple bases, I may have to chase some down (or make some of my own)

I'd be lying if i said the triple bases weren't one of the selling points of the game. Maybe contact warlord and see if they'll send you a bag full?

Finished the first unit of 3 Ashigaru.

now in order to keep myself motivated I'm going to paint the next 3 for the other warband and then do their samurai hero, That way I'm varying the colours im painting and don't get bored!

once the gifures for the starter scenario are done, it's on to terrain...

Test of honour doesn't have any fantasy rules at the moment, But I decided I wanted to run a wandering monster type scenario in future and thought a vicious Oni would be a good beasty to have bother the local mountain village.

I didn't want to buy a new miniature and decided to dig through my leadpile for something suitable, Abnd came across a reaper bones ogre. A couple of horns and some hair later and a quick paintjob and my Oni is ready!

Fantastic job!!

Thankyou! :)

I've made a card for him and written up a very rough scenario in which two forces have to try and slay the oni to cross a mountain bridge.

The wandering Oni scenario.

Great Oni, and a great scenario too. :)

Cheers! :)

I'm ploughing through the Test of honour box at astonishing speed (By my standards...)
I got 3 more ashigaru done in one night, This time in a more uniform ,cooler scheme to contrast them with the more peasant like soldiers of the other unit.
I like to imagine that these are palace guard/bodyguards.

I also got a second samurai done, Again in a more subdued colour scheme to contrast him with the first. He came out looking a little bit obi wan kenobi by accident, and his robes are just a little more blue than the photographs are showing.(I mean REALLY slightly blue)

As always, All C&C welcome, And anyone that happens to play the oni rules or gives them a read, I would really love to hear your feedback.

I really like that green armour - what colours did you use?
