What is a fair price for 25mm 1970s minifigs?
« on: August 07, 2017, 05:41:08 AM »
I'm considering a lot of unpainted french napoleonic minifigs which I'd love to have to balance out an anglo-allied waterloo army that my dad painted.

What do you consider a fair price for unpainted infantry if buying a couple of hundred? what about more than 500?

The more I buy the more the lot includes ones that I won't get to for years... I'm considering Old Glory as an alternative - they work out at 72 cents each with the discount - as well as continuing to trawl the 2nd hand sections at conventions.

How much do painted go for (gaming standard)?

The price of anything boils down to:-
a) How much the buyer wants it &
b) How little the seller wants it.
I got rid of a box file full of Mini-Fig Napoleonic Bavarians two years ago for £30. They did need a bit of repair/nice flags &
re-basing but as it was a 'mini project' I was unlikely to get around to, & it cleared shelf space, I was happy with the deal.
If you are looking for second hand try also Hinchcliffe, Ian Hind (second hand figure dealer in the UK) has the range (new) as well as a stock of pre-painted. He is also a very nice man to deal with.
I do have a lot of French Mini-Figs & a friend has a lot of Austrian Hinchcliffe which we are planning to 'Tart up' for 'Over the hills' rules. We might be persuaded to part with BUT postage to the USA would be a deal killer. There must be similar wargamers within the States though.

Thanks Has Been. Depending on the cost of the models I might pay for postage to the US - I think a package with about 60 infantry cost 10-15 quid so a larger lot might spread the cost a bit. Alternatively you could post them to somewhere in the UK and I could get them next time I visit family - or... at some future UK visit I might even be able to pick them up if I'm in your vicinity. This is a long term project so I'll keep in touch if you like.

What I'm finding is that I can pick up unwanted figures at conventions very cheaply - I got about 100 for $10 early this year but that collectors/dealers want more like $1/figure plus postage - Calivers with postage (25% and they keep the VAT) works out at something like $2.30 per infantry figure - more than a nicely detailed 28mm.

I presume you are talking about the current range rather than the old S Range?

Yes. The range you can still get from Calivers Books.

By all means keep in touch. Where (approximately) are your family & friends in the UK?
As you can see (from my Icon)I am in Rugby (Midlands).
When (again approximately) might you next be in the UK?

Yep. $1US is typical retail price for older 25mm figures, with fancy new product going for $2US+, before you consider postage, let alone postage across the Atlantic (ouch). You can often find bargains at flea markets, but you have to attend a lot of conventions and shop hard. The trick is to buy what's being offered. I believe Old Glory Napoleonics are different in size and style from Minifigs. If you want to match an old school collection, you need vintage figures.
You'll shoot your eye out, kid!
