Tomorrow's action. Ser Barrington Bonehead has been looting, raping and pillaging along the border and is now trying to leg it home. The forces of Valiant King Harry the Lionheart, allied to those of Ser Peter de Plonka, will attempt to bring him to justice for his vile actions...

The butcher's bill is in, Ser Barrington had to exit the south road with five units to win the day, that scenerio bollocks went out the window quicksharp once the dogs of war were loose! A charge of heavy horse shrugged off a feeble arrow storm and went medieval on mi' archers, as Ser peter de Plonka's men hit the enemies left flank hard. A second attack went in on Ser Barrington's right flank and things started to get confusing...

The archers put up a sterling fight before being cut down allowing time for Infantry reinforcements to arrive. Ser Barrington's Cavalry charged them, but dismounted Knights are fish of a very different kettle to archers, Ser Barrington's blokes got well sorted. this left a decent force to march up the road to support Ser Peter de Plonka's fight. This good Knight's name was well given as he'd managed to get himself, from a position of excellence, into a massive traffic jam that saw his units hit in front and flank repeatedly till disaster loomed upon us!

Ser Peter de Plonka's entire command routed from the field in disorder, which was quiet an achievement, even for him! Ser Barrington Bonehead's got the IQ of a bent measuring stick so all three of us were staggered at wot he'd managed to pull off... but I was still in the fight and advanced to contact with a lusty rendering of 'Onward Christian Soldiers'! Unfortunately I'd asked just a tad too much of the lads, outnumbered and outflanked, they broke and fled the field... Ser Barrington Bonehead had won his way home.

We've found that 'One Hour Wargames' rules work really nicely with medieval tonking matches. It's very refreshing not to have a fone directory consultation for every sword swipe, and the last few moves as our army unexpectedly collapsed, was as tense and exciting as three geriatric old farts's blood pressure could cope with.

One last cogitation on the Knights of the Oblong Table (KOTOT)...
There is something very real in the oft talked about Curse of the LAF! I'm an Englishman who's knowledge of your period has no beginnings, couldn't tell you the date of either Crecy or Agincourt, after dabbling in military history for half a century. Then I found this place and started drooling over Lion Rampant and the lovely figures you chaps create for the games. On a whim I started my KOTOT project, it even began with that sinking feeling it'd go nowhere!
Well it hasn't, it's completed, and we've got enough medieval type warriors to fight a good fight, crap as they are using the 300 foot rule the lads pass muster. Yesterday I started gloating over beating the Curse...
Then I read about 'A Gentlemanly War' in Big Battalions...
I have now placed an order with Spencer Smith...

Oh, dear.

But you have a nice Medieval force - they can't take that away from you!

Wonderful stuff. I really like that shot of the lone king surrounded by corpses. It reminds me of both the ending to Excalibur, and the old Slaine comics in 2000AD. "He didn't think it too many."

As for the other matter, I was a little worried from your various diverse postings lately that you were perhaps spreading yourself rather too thinly across the hobby. But alas, there's not much can be done about it. I hear this curse has no cure. On the other hand, this thread gives hope to us all that perhaps this is not so.

I'm reetired now Plinks so the world's mi' lobster!
Once I've completed Herself's daily job card I'm set free to play and entertain mesen. Next couple of projects include some really crappy plastic dwarfs to make an army to take on one of the KOTOT retinues. I've done a couple of 'em as testers, they're only a tad better painted than the Knights, but they'll do. But, the peasta di resistonce, are the 12 Foundry Cheyenne I've just ordered. These will be painted to my bestest for when they take the path of war. Too many times have the Palefaced Dunderheads gloated that my Warriors are painted in 'squawpaint'... this time The Great Lame Beaver will really be a high Lord of the Plains!
