Sky Captain, Totenkopfs Mechanical hand

After seeing the movie Sky Captain, this one scene keeps on going through my mind. The big mechanical hand that is stored in this huge warehouse. I am a newbie into this genre so I could go any direction I guess. Not sure if it would fit well but I decided to give this project a go.
Here is a first quick sketch of what I have in mind.
It does not have to look too practical, as long as it has lots of bolts, hydraulics, and hoses.
Suggestions are most welcome.
