Another Mech Attack Battle Report.
« on: 08 November 2017, 07:46:30 PM »
A couple of weeks ago I had a game of Mech Attack.

As is normally the case for us when not running a convention game we used rebased mechwarrior clix that are aproximately 10mm (i.e. N Scale)

As with our last battle it was a scenario rewarding both seizing objectives and destroying enemy units and only infantry could seize objectives. We added an additional twist by awarding points not only to the unit that first seized the objective but also to whatever side held the objective at the end of the game.

Worked very well and as with our other recent battles, having infantry being the only objective takers alongside points being rewarded for kills created a balanced combined arms where infantry vehicles and Mechs all have a role and are all essential.

Had a really good time and it has inspired me to finally start collecting affordable N-Scale buildings on Ali Express to replace my paper terrain.
A review of the first couple of buildings is here.

Thanks!

Just a lucky coincididence of me having a city there and meeting a bunch of players with Knight's who were looking for a place to play.

That's the kind of fated convergence that only happens at a big event like Adepticon.

I don't know if the Knight folks will be back, but if you're looking for a reason to visit Chicago I'll be running my usual big-mecha game again...

except for this year I'll be adding a spaceport with some big spaceships!

That is splendid stuff, and what a spectacle to see so many Knights in a fight, too. Complete with Sisters of Battle doing their best to not be seen by the hulking metal monsters... I'm with you, Sisters! Amen!  :D

I have some MW clickies I've contemplated basing up for Alpha Strike... this is only encouraging me, you know... But! There are Mobile Suits to paint first. Lots — and lots — of Mobile Suits...  o_o
Operating from an abandoned US spy base somewhere in the Australian outback, Miniature Martin produces games and scale miniatures set in parallel worlds, past and future. He is NOT trying to take over the Earth. This time.

Happy to encourage you!
If I can tempt you further, I'll say that rebasing a mechwarrior clix fig is just the work of a couple minutes.  Imagine the feeling of accomplishment when you see an army of rebased Mechwarrior figs done in the time it would take to paint a couple mobile suits....

Nope, wouldn't work for me, because I'd insist on repainting the MW figures.  ;D

MM, you make me tired just thinking of your past posts...  ;)

Even as a non-fan of anthro-robots, eilif, can only say 'lovely.'

Thanks Doug!
There's alot of work in that blog, though to be fair alot of it was done with help from other club members.  There's some ruined mech goodness coming soon...

Are the ones you have the same faction or different?

I'm really glad I started with one faction rebased as-is.  It got me (and several club members) to the table fast and one of the nicest things about mechwarrior clix is that they have tabletop-quality paintjobs already.

That said, I do have a rather big second army (lots of 3-vehicle platoons) of mixed units that I hope to repaint and rebase someday.

I have no idea. I grabbed them cheap ages ago, purely because some designs were fairly faithful to Mechs that I like (such as the Centurion) or to serve as a basis for other mecha.

As I always had the plan to chop, change and colour, the actual faction didn't concern me.

Having said that - I certainly concede that there is nothing amiss with re-basing pre-paints without putting a brush anywhere near them; Your photos provide all the evidence one needs to prove that!

The obsession with repainting pre-paints is just me... I'd have much, much bigger armies if I wasn't so obsessive about making paint manufacturers rich.  lol
