Pulp Alley AAR: Dirk drake and the Perilous Island Episode 5 - Lagoon of Terror

Last night we played episode 5 of our Pulp Alley Perilous Island campaign at the G3 club Glasgow.  All figures and terrain were mine.  I played the Ahnenerbe and my friend Nick McLean the Daredevils.

In the last episode Dirk Drake and the Daredevils managed to locate an old sailor in a remote Mexican village and from him found the location of a mysterious island where Lord Darrow’s expedition had embarked for.

With the Ahnenerbe hot on their heels, the Daredevils flew to the location of the island in their seaplane only to find it wrecked in a storm shortly after arrival.  The Ahnenerbe, taking ship on a German freighter also found themselves shipwrecked on the mysterious island.

Both parties now had to locate the missing pages of Lord Darrow’s journal which would give them an idea of where on the island his expedition went.  This was the major plot point.

Minor plot points were a jar containing a strange goo (papingo goo), a friendly native who might act as a guide, a deposit of weirdly glowing rocks (perilium deposit) and the bones of some huge creature (mysterious remains).

Unknown to both parties, lurking in the lagoon was a terrifying monster – a giant octopus.

The Ahnenerbe managed to secure the perilium and tried to coerce the native to join them.  They succeeded only for Drake to overpower one of the Germans and free the native, who promptly joined Drake’s party.

Lavinia, drake’s girlfriend and sidekick attempted to swim to the wreck of Lord Darrow’s ship accompanied by Franz, one of Drake’s allies.
Gustav Grief, leader of the Ahnenerbe, accompanied by two of his men, made his way to the beach to also try and swim to the wrech.
Chomper, Drake’s bulldog attempted to secure the huge bones and eventually succeeded.

As Lavina and Franz swam towards the wreck, a giant octopus appeared and immediately charged towards Grief and his two henchmen.  Their puny rifles had no effect on the giant beast and it grappled with them.

Lavinia, scared by the appearance of the beast swam back towards shore and Dirk’s protection while Franz bravely struggled on towards the wreck.
At the end of the game Franz made it onto the wreck and found the missing pages of Lord Darrow’s Journal while the Ahnenerbe struggled to stop themselves being eaten by the beast.

Now the Daredevils have to regroup and head off into the interior on the trail of Darrow’s lost expedition.

Some of the action.  Gustav Greif (nearest the front of the photo) moves down onto the beach.  In the middle of the beach a gun battle ensues between the Ahenerbe and the Dardevils.
An Ahnenerbe operative attempts to coerce the native fishermen into guiding his party.
Lavina starts swimming toward the wreck.

Last turn of the game.  The giant octopus grapples with Gustav Greif and knocks out one of his men.
Chomper the bulldog takes advantage of this to attack Gustav from the rear.

Meanwhile, Franz of the Daredevils makes his way onto the wreck of Lord Darrow's boat and find's his missing journal pages in the last moments of the game.
