Roden 1/72 Fokker DVII Late NOT Recommended
« on: 29 December 2017, 12:28:31 AM »
I've been assembling this model kit and found it to be honestly, terrible.
The fit and finish is deplorable.
The kit itself had flash on most pieces which needed to be scraped off.
Some of the parts are small and very fragile.

They supply two complete engines one early, one late, which really is not necessary, as most of it in below the engine cowling.
The seat, control stick floor assembly is supposed to be glued to one side. Once the two fuselage halves are put together, there is a large gap on the other side.
The lower wing is too narrow to be glued into the slot cut into the fuselage.

I had to cut the lower wing in half at the centre, then glue it each side with a large gap in the middle.

I also had to carve a fair amount of plastic on the fuselage and wings to get them to fit properly.
When I tried to fit the radiator to the fuselage front the engine I had to carve off the entire front propeller gear hub on the engine to make it fit.
More carving of the vertical tail fin closest to the fuselage so that it would fit properly.

After removing the upper wing struts from the sprue with model nippers one of the N struts just snapped.

Thus I have decided to replace all of them with wire; also needing to drill holes to accommodate stability for the wire.

It's like they just designing a model and produced it without ever putting it together.
The camouflage decals for both top and bottom wing are nice but delicate and tear easily.

In summation, even though these kits are cheap, I now know why they are!
If you REALLY like a challenge, you can have the second kit I bought for free! You pay postage.

I'm sorry to hear this.  I have Roden Albatros kits that are quite nice.  Sorry to hear the Fokker doesn't live up to the standard.

So after a second .e-mail Roden agreed to send me two kits in replacement for these disastrous ones.
These two go in the spare parts bin, or possibly crashed Aircraft.
