Hope you like the figures.

They look good (especially the Bundeswehr). Some of them might get a change of trousers (instant sunshine will do that) and some more baggage.

One of the effects of throwing Instant Sunshine around is a requirement for new trousers.

The Under Fire Miniatures Cold War Soviet figures are dressed in the correct trousers with the uncomfortable high boots. This is fine for troops at the outbreak of war, after a few years, the parade ground uniform will undergo some modification.

The first thing was to use a small length of greenstuff on each boot which was sculpted with a knife blade to form laces. Once that was set, more greenstuff was used to restyle the trouser cuffs.

Nice conversion, are you baseing that off the combat shoes used by the Soviets in Afghanistan?
"Peace" is that brief, glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading.

Thanks. I had not thought of that, no it is just that the tall boots looked a bit to regular and the plate description in Elite 217 says they were uncomfortable.. The boots are likely to be whatever he has picked up and fit (for a given value of fit). Regular supply chains are likely to have fallen apart before the deployment of strategic sunshine.

This is quite possibly one of my favourite sentences written on a wargames website. Love the conversion!

Re: UVS - Twilight 2000 28mm thread - Bundeswehr uniform question
« Reply #21 on: August 29, 2018, 04:37:36 PM »
I have based (and added new trousers to the Soviets) to most of the last order, and so I am ready to start painting. I have a plan for the Soviets and the  NVA, but Iam wondering about the Bundeswehr uniform?

These are the figures:

Would these have been what looks like Field Grey in the Osprey Elite 16 "NATO Armies Today", or would they be Flecktarn?

From what I can find, Flecktarn appears to have been issued about 1990.

Selecting equipment and uniforms is slightly complicated for Twilight 2000, I am going with the original 1984 timeline (though I still have to retrieve the books from the loft). This is from 1984 so is basically the breaking off point from our timeline. So only stuff available or on the drawing board at that time matches. The break up of the Soviet Union affect  Soviet equipment choices and the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait and the military advances rushed out before Operation Granby affects NATO.

I do have the corresponding Warpac books (Elite 10 and 12) on my shopping list.

I believe those gentlemen are supposed to represent the pre-90s gray-green uniform. And i am not sure if the Flecktarn and the old uniforms were of diffrent cuts or not.  :?

With the Flecktarn being issued in 1990 after unification with the east. So I guess its up to you weather you want them in Flecktarn or not, because I they tested the uniform pattern around 1974.
Maybe keep the reagular troops in gray-green and the scouts or eilite troops in Flecktarn?

In the '80s the West Germans wore what were described as 'Moleskin' fatigues in the UK, they were really popular with students at the time, myself included. They were a slight grey toned 'sage' colour after being washed, but were olive green on issue.

Bundeswehr Moleskin as a search term should give a wealth of photos on Google images.

There is a German Wiki article on Bundeswehr combat uniforms here: https://de.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feldanzug

There was an older 'splinter' camo suit, which iirc were cut up to make helmet covers when the OG fatigues were issued.

Thanks both of you.

I am going for the field grey (I have a can ^__^).

It is my impression of the colour of the uniforms in Deutschland 83, an excellent series (East German infiltrates the Bundeswehr), if you are in the UK it is available free on All4

Re: UVS - Twilight 2000 28mm thread - 11/10/2018 - Soviet NCO
« Reply #26 on: October 11, 2018, 05:03:40 PM »
So, the first Under Fire Miniatures Soviet figure painted, an NCO.

I did swap the head for a woolly hat head from Empress Miniatures.

Most of the uniforms in the Osprey "Inside the Soviet Army (Today)" are the same slightly sandy khaki shade used in the Second World War, however there are some camouflaged uniforms, the KLMK pattern being one of them. As these are going to be used for Twilight 2000 (set a number of years after the Soviet Union broke up) I thought I would use the pattern on the uniform.

The NCO has a different camouflage pattern on his trousers, having liberated them.

One of the modifications i did make was the trouser cuffs, but the basing has rather hidden the changes.

He also has a rucksack, from the Rubicon Allied Stowage set.

So I have finished the remaining three figures from the Under Fire Soviet Infantry pack.

A Rifleman with AK-74.

Some support in the form of a PKM machine-gun.

And another PKM (you can never have enough machine guns).

He has brought his security blanket along with him.
And a group shot:

More photographs here
Now to finish off the (East and West) Germans and order some more.
