This will have my efforts at building and painting 28mm scale figures, vehicles and scenery for small unit skirmishes in the retro-ultra-modern-post apocalypse world of Twilight 2000.

Selecting equipment and uniforms is slightly complicated for Twilight 2000, I am going with the original 1984 timeline (though I still have to retrieve the books from the loft). This is from 1984 so is basically the breaking off point from our timeline. So only stuff available or on the drawing board at that time matches. The break up of the Soviet Union affect  Soviet equipment choices and the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait and the military advances rushed out before Operation Granby affects NATO

Not exactly a big splash, but a Soviet equipped infantryman..

An Empress Miniatures CWR007 Chechnya Russian, armed with an assault rifle(with UGL) and a disposable anti-tank weapon.

Thanks.

Finding compatible figures for this period is a bit difficult. There are British figures of that period, but I do not have them.

I do have a number of Crooked Dice figures, including the X-Commandos.

They are equipped with heavy looking body armour and L1A1 SLR rifles.

I also have some of the camouflaged British helmets from Empress Miniatures. Here is a combination of the two plus a Warlord Games Commando rucksack,

The surface is not very good, so I will run a milliput slurry over the surface to smooth it out.

Back to the Soviets.

Two more from the Empress Miniatures Chechnya Russians.

A marksman.

Light machine gunner.

Group shot.

A patrolling British infantryman with his L1A1 SLR.

The figure is based on a Crooked Dice X-Commando with an Empress Miniatures Modern British helmet with enthusiastic camouflage. The rucksack is from the Warlord Games British Commandoes range.

I've been thinking about doing this for some time. What rules are you going to use?

Current thoughts are Spectre Operations (with suitable tech limits) or Skirmish Sangin.

The former does have ammo use rules, which will probably need tweaking for one off play, I cannot remember if Sangin has them.

For entertainment purposes, there is also The Walking Dead: All Out War, but without the zombies (though decals are an option).

It has been a while since I have posted here, but this week I ordered three packs of Cold War figures from Under Fire Miniatures.

Soviet Pack RMR2 comprises one NCO pointing the way, two PKM machine guns and an AK74.

Bundeswehr pack 1 comprises four troops armed with the G3 rifle.

The East German pack NVA1 comprises a platoon commander, radio operator, a sniper and an RPG7.

One from each pack on bases with an Empress Universal Soldier in woolly hat for scale.

I am working my way through assembling them at the moment.

They are sparsely equipped for Twilight 2000, but I may remedy that with some green stuff.

Those were on sale recently right? ;)

I've kind of gone off that sculptor lately. I find that, whilst it isn't so apparent on these, that he gives a king of "gorilla arms" look to his miniatures. They tend to look a bit too long.

I'd eyed up those East Germans for my WWII collection, as barring the AKs they'd do for alternative history Germans with those new model Stalhelms they were wearing in the early days of that state. Swap out the AKs for say Die Waffenkammers StG-44s (or better yet find an StG-45 or G3) and they'd fit the bill. :)

Which was dutifully cashed and squirreled away  :D

Hope you like the figures.
