Officer and crew figures for colonial gunboat?
« on: 21 January 2018, 03:29:13 AM »
I'm building a paddle gunboat for the colonial New Zealand Wars of the 1860s, and am looking for suitable 25-28mm crew to man her. It would be good to have a sailor at the wheel, an officer on the bridge, and maybe a sailor or two on the deck. Anyone know of a manufacturer who produces Victorian-era sailors and officers at work?

More about this project on my blog here:  https://arteis.wordpress.com/2018/01/21/28mm-paddle-gun-boat-for-colonial-new-zealand-wars/

Old Glory have some that may suit in their Boxer Rebellion range or perhaps some Foundry Crimean Gun Crew?
Cheers,

Most manufacturers of naval figures have them in fighting poses, or manning guns. I'm actually after figures just doing day-to-day duty - a sailor steering, officer on the bridge, couple of seamen wandering around the decks, etc.

Thanks for the suggestions, one and all! So far, the Foundry Crimean War sailors are coming out on top for me … but I still welcome any other ideas.

If Redoubt sell them separately their paddle steamer crew are top notch. An officer with telescope tucked under his arm for the bridge, a sailor coiling a rope and a couple of stokers. Sorry no pics

Check out www.thevirtualarmchairgeneral.com under Houston's ship fittings.  They have 25mm naval figures deck crew, fire fighting crew loads of others, to say nothing of the various guns.

Bit of a way to send them but I did send some infantry packs over just before Christmas and they got there no trouble (normal post).

Many thanks

The Grand Manner does a nine figure Navy Crew set. It is a gun crew but mightbe useful anyway.

Are you looking for uniformed RN sailors or generic mid-Victorian sailors? If the former then the Crimean War figures might be the pick of the bunch so far.

The Basmati ones look to be French BTW, the beret with pom-pom is typical for them.
