Waterloo in 6mm General de Brigade
« on: 17 February 2018, 05:57:43 PM »
I introduce my attempt at Waterloo in 6mm fought solo. This is probably the largest game I will ever play with over 10,000 figures involved including the Prussians. Part 1 is on my blog which covers the rules and figures used, terrain, orbats and photos of the opening positions of the allied and French forces at 11.30am. I will be posting regular updates as this game progresses, which I am anticipating could take several weeks (the beauty of solo wargaming and a wargames room). I include several sample photos here. Hope you enjoy.  https://grymauch.blogspot.co.uk/2018/02/the-battle-of-waterloo-in-6mm-part-1.html

What I read and saw is really great, a blog to be recommended, for sure!
Congratulations!

Part 2 is now on my blog. The initial assault on Hougoumont and the formation of the grand battery.

Wow! I'm getting back into 6mm and chose 6mm for ground scale considerations, but seeing them at 1:20 is so impressive!

Just read your Part I blog post, and I wanted to say that I went through the same basing issues with 10mm ACW. I use smaller 10mm figures, which can still be fit onto a 5mm frontage, and like you decided that 3 figures per 15mm frontage was as small as I could go, but still has proved very sturdy and flexible. I also use 1mm bases from Litko (would love to find a EU distributor!), but I also added 1mm magnetic tape on the bottom. This doesn't affect the look, and gives a little "grip", but most importantly allows the use of thin metal sabots when needed, or simply for ease of movement.

I'm wrestling with whether to start 6mm Napoleonics on 15 or 20mm bases - your collection gives me some food for thought!

Cheers.

Christopher

Thanks for that Christopher. I have never looked back since basing this way and the same goes for my Ancients, WOTR and ACW 6mm armies. I just feel they offer so much more flexibility and, in my opinion, look better en-masse. If I ever get the urge, I can put them on movement trays if I ever want a quick battle using other rules. A good idea with the magnetic tape and Litko bases.
