I suspect that any Games Workshop entry, especially from 40K, is gonna suffer on this forum.  Given a well-painted 40K entry versus a moderately well-painted pulp or Victorian entry, I'll probably give the nod to the pulp/Victorian entry every time.  The reason we're here, instead of on some GW-fanboy forum, is we like the pulpy goodness.  This will probably hurt me later in the LPL when I enter my own 40K team.

I noticed that in my previous entry as well but then I decided I didn't care enough to change my course. This league is a great opportunity to expand (or actually mostly just paint) my Rogue Trader army for 2nd edition games so I'm seizing it 8)

vonkluge> thanks for your kind words and I'd love to see some beakies done by you 8) I decided for a more narrative picture style on this team because by themselves these marines actually look pretty dull. I'm pleased how the camouflage turned out but when I put them against a grey background it works a little bit too well. Therefore I added the quickly painted Genestealers and Rhino. I painted an assault squad for the league in this colour scheme too because after painting my last entry I was tired of the green and white. It will probably pop up later in the league.

That said, I hardly have any pulp to paint even if I wanted to ;)

I’m sick and tired of GW stuff… especially W40K…  lol

Still I voted for the first entry too as I found the setting to work very well with the minis. I like the way Pil painted is Space Marines in Urban Camo. They look really great. The Cowboy are well painted of course but I think they could benefit from a simple setting instead of a plain white backdrop…  8)

I think both entries are great. In the end I voted for the cowboys though.
I felt like there was too much going on in the first picture and it detracted from the miniatures a bit (which I think are gorgeous btw).

All in all though another tough call.

For me another easy one! As I said elsewhere I'm not a fan of the Dallimore/Dean painting style and these will probably never get my vote. The colors are very nice though and they are based well.
Although I''m not a big fan of the splattered camo on the beakies and the Tamiya smoked look on the Genestealers they won my vote for presentation, painting style and total looks.

Yeah, the splatter camo is the easy way out but for a quicky (and not too many models) it works ok for me. You are wrong on the genestealers though, they are drybrushed over black and then glossed. The end result looks lighter than in real life (they are more like the one on the left in the back), but it remains a quick paintjob and nowhere near perfect (them being out of focus probably helps to get the washed effect) 8)

aha...sounds like one of those effects that looks best in real life as the lighting on the photo doesn't capture the effect in the best way. So are you going to do all your Genies for Space Hulk? :)

I had 5 already painted up in Zerg colours, I'm not going to repaint those. Then I painted these six in Alien colours and I have 9 more for the same treatment, but I don't know if I'm going to paint those anytime soon ;)

The faces on the cowboys swung it for me - superb brushmanship!  :-*
