Creeping Vines / Ivy

[Silent Invader]

Can anyone recommend a creeping vine or ivy product?

I need a fair bit.

I quite like that by Army Painter but ideally am looking for a cheaper substitute.

Not something you can buy as it's 'do it yourself', but the price is right ...

I've given the impression of vines / climbers before by spreading thick pva or hot glue over the wall surface and quickly scattering foliage over it and pushing in to position. The mixes made from the little birch keys are especially good, you could even collect your own if you can wait about 3-4 months!

I’ve done the same as Steve but have also used Noch railway products.

I suppose the question is what difference between cost and realism are you after.

I'm sure that I recall a modelling project where the vines/ivy were constructed from crushed egg shells. Can anyone else remember this tutorial?

The egg shells were glued in place with PVA glue and painted when hardened off.

TBH I don’t think that I’d be able to make ivy as effective as the Warlord Poison Ivy that I’ve used before. I couldn’t find anything by Noch but in searching for I did discover Mininatur/Silflor Summer Ivy.

I did think the Warlord product expensive for the amount provided (it no longer seems to be available) and there’s  an interesting comparison of the Warlord and Sliflor products here:

Btw, it can be a bit confusing because there are large packs and small packs for both large leaf ivy and small leaf ivy. The large leaves seem to be suggested for scales of 1/45 and bigger so I’ve gone for the small (I believe code 936-22 or code 936-22s). Note that in the video review above the large pack is marked 936-32 and 1:45+, so it would seem to have the larger leaves (screenshot attached below).

Great Escape Games also carry 936-32s and 936-22s but don’t seem to have the larger packets.
