Large crop of ashigaru and the heroes are fully based up.

Samurai Board is also complete:

Here are the buildings I constructed, all using leftover foam board. The roofs are cardboard.

So much fun working on this project. I especially enjoyed making the scenery, and loved the Steel Fist miniatures! Hope to do a lot more sometime soon!

Samurai look great massed up, and individually. Very cool project!
a mixture of quick parts, sarcastic humour, reserve, and caprice.

Completed a mini-project of multibases for my cherry trees I made earlier in the summer:

This will make it easier to use these trees on a standard skirmish matt if I want too for Test of Honour.

Some dramatic photos of Ronin defending a temple:

Ambush!

That is a tremendous amount of lovely looking stuff, I hope to be in a similar position one day, well done.

If I might give you some feed back and that is a coat of matt varnish (testors dullcote or Mr Hobby Flat are my preferred choices) would just take that sheen off your models and lift the paint jobs further. (of course you may prefer that)

Really appreciate you sharing the effort of all that is immense!

Many thanks!

Funny you mention this, I meant to pick up some matt varnish yesterday when I went to the paint store, but forgot about it until I made it back home   :?

I do like the paint jobs as they are now (in my own barely tabletop worthy level of painting  :D ) but want to experiment with it some more, specifically for applying water transfers in the future.

Took a break from my burgeoning Cryx warband to get back to some samurai cavalry this weekend.

Got a few more additions to the clans, starting with the Shimazu Clan along with previously painted cavalry models:

Ukita Clan:

Konishi Clan:

And two archers who could fit in with any clan right now:

Also completed my Red Devils of the Ii Clan finally:

Red Devils with Ii Naomasa leading them:

A couple more pictures of the cavalry as a group for the road!

Got some more Perry and Kensei miniatures over the weekend and have started working on them, they will be enough to finish off three more daimyo: Ukita, Fukushima, and Shimazu.

The Kensei model will fill in for Fukushima Masanori of the Eastern Army

Planning to base his armor off this historical example:

The Kensei model is 32mm, so quite a bit bigger than the 28mm warlord games Ukita on the left. He is nearly the same size as the Steel Fist Honda model I already painted, mostly because of how big the horse is.

Also got some progress on the banners and on Shimazu Yoshihiro himself:

To be honest the color schemes are from all over the place. I find examples on the internet and try and duplicate them with the paint on hand. Since my goal is creating two roughly-equivalent forces of equal size depicting the two sides in the Battle of Sekigahara, I decided to make the Eastern Army have a "red" theme, and the Western Army a "blue" theme. Granted this doesn't always match up, but its the goal.

Some examples:

  • Shimazu Clan- inspired by the green warriors painted by Alfons the Traitor over on Beasts of War. I am keeping the green and swapped blue for red.
  • Ishida Clan- inspired by the Warlord Games ashigaru scheme
  • Ii Clan- these guys are easy, they are just red. Many examples all over the internet on these guys
  • Tokugawa Clan- inspired by Kriget Kommer's amazing samurai army

The banners (sashimono, nobori, etc) are mostly modelled off of the sekigahara screen (first page of this thread) and banners found on either google search or in the samurai archives thread.

Also good reference on armor is this video; turns out most armor of the time period didn't actually match as it was mostly colored based on what was on hand, except for specific circumstances like Ii Naomasa's Red Devils.

I love that you have Samurai Jack in there.

Thanks! One of my favorite models to paint, and definitely my favorite samurai  :D

Progress continues on the daimyo, they are nearly finished.

Also finished up six more samurai on foot.

Bases are magnetized, now I have enough for six blocks of samurai infantry.

Really like how the differing armor works with the banners.
