Another paint thread
« on: 06 February 2019, 04:31:46 PM »
Rather than add another manufacturer's name to the current discussion of modelling paints, which is nominally devoted to Army Painter, and thus irritate the original poster further, I thought I would commence a new thread and accept merger if deemed appropriate. My query is about Secret Weapon paints (though I am happy for other brands to be added to the mix, which is precisely what I invariably do with my paints in any case, with the end result that I rarely have more than a vague idea of what I am using). I am aware of the reputation of their washes, but until recently was not aware they also made paint per se. I am actually awaiting an order from Wayland Games, but it has been delayed because the apparently wonderful Soft Body Wash is out of stock (and always has been when I have looked).

Judging by the names given to the colours, they are geared to fantasy and SF modellers (some are specifically for mechs) but no doubt they can be used more widely, even if not for the nominal application (e.g. Baby Poop). Has anyone used them, and would care to comment on their properties?

P.S. Posted on wrong board, I think. I'm not having a good day.

As some will have already noticed, the Scale 75 KS for their new paints is now live:

Hi

What is the reputation of their washes?

I have not heard much about them, do you know if the reputation, good or bad, is one they deserve? .

Thanks

Do you mean the Secret Weapon washes? I still don't have any, but I saw a video on YouTube which raved about Soft Body Wash. This may help to explain why it seems to be unavailable, though Heavy Body Wash is not in short supply (something to do with body image issues, perhaps?)

I can't find the video I was thinking of right now, but here's another that's clearly enthusiastic:

Yes, they should have called it Hard Body Wash.

I have a clearer idea about Secret Weapon paints /washes now: the colours I've mentioned are in fact all washes, including such unlikely shades as Parchment, while the paints are intended for use on mechanical models, which accounts for the lurid colours.

I've integrated two orders from Wayland Games, so can now expect all items I've ordered, other than Soft Body black, which remains on back-order, around the middle of next week. The difference between Soft Body and Heavy Body Blacks, incidentally, is that the former contains one third the amount of pigment of the latter.

There are are also pigments, as well as bases.
