:D :D. The first thing I thought when I saw the aliens was: "WOW...Pil must see these...he'll love them!!". Then I saw who painted them :D. Fantastic idea Arjen. Love the miniatures as aliens. They work frigging well. And since I have 40 of these Bloodletters at home, I am very tempted to copy your idea 8)

But although your entry is fantastic, these star wars kids are totally awesome. The painting is very nice with lots of great colours and the backdrop gives me a smile. Terrific entry.

You're absolutely right about the other entry, mine is doomed this round ;) Thanks for the compliments, though there are some differences between these and the real deal (most obvious being the lacking tail) I saw the potential in the bloodletters and couldn't resist trying it out. Of course the models were pretty cheap (especially for GW standards) so there wasn't much to lose 8)

Oh, I don't care that much about the tails (and weird "smockestacks" on the backs). It's more a matter of the overall look and feel of the Aliens, rather than copying them. Everybody knows what they're supposed to be and they'll do the job very well.

Pil, this is not "false modesty", but I really like your aliens. I guess that u used some gloss varnish for the skin, but what did you used for the saliva ? Glue ? varnish ? resin ?

THe tongues on the Aliens look so slimey...well done. I also like the bases. Great job on the first entry. The Jedi kids looks awesome although the bases are a bit plain. Who makes these figures??

Pil: These are very cool--I'm willing to say perfect, paintjobs.  Surely there's some kind of cool conversion going on with their tongues, right?  Their problem, of course, is that we can't see them against the background.  This is one of those cases when a uniform paintjob needs a special background to make them pop.

The Hasslefree minis are beautiful.  Look at their faces; wow!  The blends are great as well.  What is going on with their bases though?

I used an old pot of Citadel Gloss Varnish which has now become so thick I can almost sculpt it. Useless as varnish of course but perfect for this. I think maybe vallejo acrylic bases water effects might do the same trick assuming it's just a very thick acrylic gloss varnish.

Mancha> thanks for the compliments. I noticed the problem with the black background as well which is why I took a second close-up pic in front of a lightly coloured building. It shows the paintjobs a bit better but of course the gloss confounds the paintjob a bit, which is only a good thing because there isn't much going on underneath the varnish anyway (just two drybrushes) ;)

I didn't change anything about the tongues. These Aliens are based on Games Workshop Bloodletters and are 100% Evil Empire legal, you could use them at the grand tournament if you wanted to:

As you can see the Bloodletters already have these cool tongues!

bases are made with textured plastic card (finelly textured, you would need a view from above to see it), wood and magnet sheet. My choice was to keep it very simple as I didn t have too much time to paint those miniatures as familly was at home for a few days (painted in less than 3 hours). I've also found out that I am more and more going in the direction of very simple bases with either less color or less structure or less of both.
