Squad size. a question
« on: June 15, 2009, 12:41:04 PM »
Im planning on buying some of the troopers from em-4 (the copplestones being a little on the steep side). Anyway Im to used to seeing squad size from a GW game point of view, i.e. ten men squads repeated 6 or 7 times.

So what is a good squad size for a skirmish game? 5 man? 6? Two squads or one?

4-10 would seem good, depending on your game system. In most skirmish games squads of 5 or 6 are common, some systems let you decided on squad sizes and sometimes these are linked to the quality of the models. Troopers are generally high quality and therefore fewer in number (4-6). Visually I like 8 man squads: 5 troopers, one leader and two heavies/specials. This will allow for some variation as well, you can leave out the heavies for a 6-man squad. I think two 6-man squads are a good start: 2 leaders, 2 heavies and 8 normal troopers. Of course the more the merrier ;)

I was told once that the maximum size for developing team relationships properly was 4 men. Given that this is supposed to be the most effective size, then why not organise your squads around 4 man fire teams?

Go for 8 man squad which can break down into 2 4 man fire teams
