Went back and added some detail to all the LAWs. Also drilled out the barrels.

I like that level of attention to detail.  Without meaning to step on any toes, another suggestion might be that many LAWs also had a yellow stripe around the tube, like in the pic...(some were painted, some were tape, like this one).

In any event, those guys sure look good!

Thanks Jim, I saw a similar picture during 'the hunt' for info, but wasn't sure if that was a drill round or not (things associated with 'blanks' used to be painted yellow back in my days of 'seeing without being seen' , including the platic water jerrycan with the yellow cross, out of which you did not drink), so wanted to find a shot of one 'in the field'.
Found this picture of one being carried.



Then found these close ups with similar markings.




Also tried this on a few , for some variety.



I don't know if the red warning lable was on both sides, so probably added it to the wrong side on some.

I've fired them with and without the yellow band.  Never did figure out what it meant...

In my day, light blue (similar to the color of union trousers in the ACW) was the color for training and inert ammo.  Orange was non-lethal ammo, like the chalk/beanbag shotgun rounds we fired to mark instigators/etc. during civil disturbance training when I was in the Guard.  The only yellow that mattered to us was the top paint on smoke grenades...

Yup, blue is the colour denoting a practice round. Yellow bands mean high explosive is involved, in this case a HEAT round. I’ve met a number of soldiers who should have had a blue band painted on their foreheads, with ‘Inert. For training purposes only’ stencilled on to it.

I still have horrid memories of the officer cadets I was instructing pointing the things at me on the firing range. Some would get nervous and when they went to check the BBDA, they would bodily turn, swinging the rocket with them. Didn’t seem to happen as much with the 23mm sub cal insert as with the actual rocket. Not that it made any difference, a 23mm hole in the chest or head will kill you just as well as a 66mm one. Still, at least it was my best mate and not me who had the long nervous walk with the misfire. Poor sod.

Yep - I've had, um, "interesting" things happen on ranges I've been either shooting on or running, with everything from m16s to 105 tank guns...

Having run out of little blokes to prod with brushes I've succumbed again to the lure of Milliput sand bags...

Got a bit more done, up to the roof line, then ran out of Milliput.
Found a rather old half pack of the brown/terracotta stuff, quite a few lumps of unmixed crud in them, so may replace once the new stuff arrives, or more likely hide the worst bits with cam nets.
