CoC Taking the Gembloux Gap campaign 1940
« on: August 13, 2019, 01:19:46 AM »
The publication of the 1940 Handbook for Chain of Command has led to a flurry of campaigns set in France and we really like the look of 'Taking the Gembloux Gap' and the attempt by 3 Panzer to breakthrough in Belgium.

This is the first scenario 'Palm Off at Perbais' as the German infantry attempt to push aside the French defenders and clear a path for the tanks. The full AAR is here https://thetacticalpainter.blogspot.com/2019/08/gembloux-gap-scenario-1-palm-off-at.html

I'm so glad you're doing this campaign, we can compare and contrast with that incompetent Clarkie on Lard TV  ;D

And you'll have way more hobby time now you aren't on that other forum  lol

Now I must get on with painting my German infantry.

The Germans return to Perbais to take another crack at dislodging the stubborn French defenders. The Stukas failed to make much of an impression in the last attack and so this assault might call for a different tactical approach, but will it prove any more successful than the first? Back to Perbais. I'm sick of the sight of the place and even more sick of the French defenders. I have an eviction order but they don't seem interested in taking any notice. Maybe this time? It appears that your movement dice and Command dice let you down,

I won my Perbais game in the second turn using a MC Recce Squad, a SNT, a PGB and a 75mm LeIG. I found the extra deployment for the Recce Squad pushed them well forward but they eventually were stymied by losses and had to remain in the wheat field taking more fire while the LeIG was able to pound an MMG that the French had taken. I used a fresh platoon as the first took a lot of casualties in round 1.
Cheers,

I must be an optimist or a glutton for punishment but here we are trying to push the French out of Perbais for the fifth time. This is the last opportunity to get the campaign moving as failure this time means any chance of campaign victory slips away. With the campaign hanging by a thread the Germans push on to scenario 2 with the French trying desperately to demolish two key road culverts. A French victory will throw the German schedule into such disarray the campaign will be lost. Everything to fight for then. After a longer break than planned we get the campaign up and running again and now arrive at Scenario 3 Blitz on Villeroux. The Germans have started to make some progress but need to continue to push hard if they are to have any hope of winning the campaign. With no further chance of reinforcements the current platoon must take every new map at the first asking. A tall order, can they do it? Another cracking report. Love these, and please keep them coming. For someone like me, who doesn't get a lot of gaming in, they are the next best thing to actually playing.
