As part of my African themed adventure I have decided to build a couple of Hordes of the Things armies loosely based on the Adventures of Tarzan. There are still a few more types of critters I would like to represent, but these are the ones I have finished so far.

A few of the miniatures are on sabot bases allowing me to use them for skirmish games such as In Her Majesty's Name, etc.

First off is Tarzan on foot and mounted on Tantor.

Tarzan, Kerchak and friends.

Great White Hunter and assistant, Waziri Tribesmen and Witchdoctor.

Some of the wildlife.

Brilliant. Great ad for the sort of armies that work in HotT, too.

There is a very good Zulu War variant for DBA that was written quite a few years ago, called "Brave Men's Blood".  The Zulu commander had to spend points to keep the wings of the formation from moving.  It gave quite a good game.

Synchronistically, there's an article on building a Tarzan army for DitDC in MW 411.

Thanks Gentlemen.

I have a few more elements I would like to add, along with an opposing army.

I have heard of these. I think I have a copy somewhere...

I picked up a copy of MW 411 as I own a copy DITC :D

Nice! Particularly love Tarzan on the elephant and the body-painted guys. Very striking.

Barry,

The African Cape Buffalo are now available from Highlander Studios - just search Buffalo.  I have some and will be getting many more.

And thanks for the photo with the cat.  Will have to try and hunt some down.  Did you get the rhinos from Eureka, too?

FifteensAway, the rhinos are from Irregular Miniatures.

Thanks for the heads up about the cape buffalo!

The semi-submerged ones are very appealing.

I thought I would share some photos of my latest completed project - 15mm Boers based for the Hordes of the
Things colonial wars variant Hordes of the Empire.

The basing is different to the rest of my HotE collection as I plan to eventually sell this army.

Complete Boer Army

Mounted Infantry including General

Lurkers

Artillery

Hero and Scout...

Camp

Custom Made Measurement Stick, Artillery Template and Die. The Measurement Stick is hinged and opens up to the Command Radius. The Template is transparent orange. It still has the backing paper attached.

The piece of writing on one half of the measurement stick is a section taken from the Rudyard Kipling Poem - Tommy.

We aren't no thin red 'eroes, nor we aren't no blackguards too,
But single men in barricks, most remarkable like you;
An' if sometimes our conduck isn't all your fancy paints,
Why, single men in barricks don't grow into plaster saints;

Your Boers army contains some beautiful vignettes and your measuring stick is very artistic and inspiring! Hats off!

Gorgeous work all round. I'm usually not in favour of vignettes on wargaming bases but have to say yours look splendid. It works for Boers, I think. Thank you for sharing!
