Doll House Furniture
« on: June 30, 2009, 12:09:43 PM »
Has anyone used doll house furniture for adding detail to terrain pieces?

I looked around on ebay but I don't know if the scale is right for 28mm.

Cheers.

If you do, look for quarter scale, which is the dollhouse equivalent of 1/48.

Usually no. Dolls are much higher and ofcourse in different scale. If you are using action figures then yes, but as you said you are looking for 28mm, is not useable. Only for inspiration.
However bits and pieces maybe used. Only some parts when scale is not clear. I saw once a astronomical or geographical globes and thinking to use them sometimes.
I think that the best is to use paper models rescaling them. Lots of interesting stuff are available on the net.
Interesting sets like newspapers, preprinted money, maps, pizza boxes and structures might be used.

If you do, look for quarter scale, which is the dollhouse equivalent of 1/48.

I'd like to use doll house furniture, but unfortunatley in Germany only larger doll scales are available. Quarter scale (a.k.a. 1/4"-scale or 1:48) should look right with 28mm miniatures.

I'll buy architects furniture instead once I can locate a reasonable source. It's available in 1:50 scale which should also work well.
Far less active than I used to...

Most dolls house stuff I have seen is 1/16th scale and no use at all. I also find it very expensive. I built one for my grilfriend (now wife) and it cost a fortune. I ended up making a lot of the furniture myself and some of the pieces I end up with looked as good as if not better than the bought stuff. At the time I bought a couple of magazines that had plans in them for making the stuff (Pre Web days). Web should be even better.
Making stuff for 28mm is even easier and cheaper. get some balsa wood and have a go.

iirc http://www.skankgame.com/Articles.html used doll house furniture in a bunch of terrain projects, might be worth a nose (even if just for a look at all the finished terrain...)

Only a few odd sized bits for use in 54mm skirmish games.

Although you can also get hold of some decorative diecast pencil sharpeners that can be useful - in a variety of scales (scaled to fit the box) the pencil sharpeners include, amongst other things, a passable deck gun for 28mm and a piano for 54mm

1/4 scale works quite well actually and there are some very nice and inexpensive plastic sets available, especially for tables, chairs, bedroom furniture, and bathroom sets.
