You are allowed to say what you're not keen on as well you know

It's very nice getting compliments but if I can improve then I'm open to feedback. Funnily enough I have changed how I paint the back of the shields but I'm always up for some advice

May I suggest, for the back of the shields, a light/mid brown with a dry-brushed lighter brown.
Follow that, when dry, with the (plank?) lines drawn with a sharp pencil,
& a few finer/lighter grain lines also with pencil. The higher the 'B' content the darker the
line will appear when you spray varnish over it. I find this a LOT easier to control than a brush.
