Grumpygnome in the Wasteland of Fallout?
« on: December 04, 2019, 03:52:01 PM »
Not that I have a huge amount of free time given my other projects I did get sidetracked with some Fallout... some folks might find it helpful to see a side by side comparison of Modiphius power armor and Brother Vinni power armor.

More info on my blog. As always I am keen for feedback, suggestions and advice!

I prefer the Vinni sculpts. Really wish Modiphius hadn't gone off with their own scale and fit it better into everything else. Your paint looks good!

Thanks! It is not exactly game accurate, I took a couple of liberties to break up my initial monochromatic look. And my poor photography skills do not do the mini any favors.

Scale creep has been both annoying and yet at times helpful. As I get older I appreciate painting the 32mm stuff more thanks to my failing eyesight... but that said, trying to match things up from different makers is a right pain. I can get by with 28mm generally but the older 25mm stuff is difficult. Almost like companies do not want you mix and matching minis in their games... or something.

I think that is definitely the case with WH40K. They wag the dog, for sure.

Because of dynamic lighting and tricks that games can do, it gets tough to replicate a good looking monochromatic paint job. The BOS paint jobs are really pretty blah. Well, unless you wanted to do a Nuka Cola paint job, or Abraxo, or one of the other oddball paint jobs you can add to power armor in later games.

At any rate, I think your treatment was very genre agnostic, as intended.

The Nuka-Cola design did cross my mind but I think that may be beyond my skill level.
