Looks like a great start.   If you don't want to deal with cutting stones you could always build a small ramp on one side.

The base of the mound, the heiau, and the ahu are complete.

I have also clad the heiau and the ahu in stone textured plastic. Still some work to do to close up the joins but that will be in the future. I have taken beach sand and glued it to the upper surface to reflect a gravel (ili ili)surface.

….and the current state of the beast.

A stone staircase and gluing everything down comes next.

More progress. I knocked out the stone staircase, clad it in textured plastic, have cut the base so it fits, and glued everything down. Here are some views with my agent Ernie reporting.

and

Tomorrow I am planning on doing a tumbled down stone wall on the exterior and start spackling the "earthen" portions. Hopefully, I can even get some vegetation started. Este later.

The stacked stone wall is in place now.

I have cosmetic work to do on all of the formal stone structures and a pandanus tree to finish building. It is clear now that I have pretty much everything in place that there would be limited room for more vegetation. The ki'i is in position though I still have to base and paint it. If I don't watch it I may actually make the contest deadline.
(surely cursing myself there - I may have to run for a pu'uhonua for forgiveness - for those in the know)

The spackling is complete. I also finished spackling the bases for the ki'i and the pandanus tree.

Charging toward the finish on this project. I have put down the sand for the ili ili (gravel) pavement on the top of the mound and the stairs. I have also put together the pandanus tree. If I can get some time I will make some smooth water washed rocks from spackle to act as edging and that will complete the build except for painting.
Here is the compound with the ili ili paving.

Here the heiau and the ahu are placed on top of the mound.

Finally, here are the rest of the elements in place.

I would really liked to have got some more vegetation in place to give a more Pacific flavor but I just did not manage my time as well as I could.
