Oldskoolrebel Dungeons and Dragons Adventures
« on: 27 December 2019, 05:03:43 PM »
I’m hoping to keep a log of some of the miniatures and terrain that I’ve painted for my D&D campaigns. I’ll endeavour to only post completed projects- which can often be hard! I’ve got boxes of half finished miniatures.

The first set, is a group of 5 Reaper Bones Yetis. I really enjoyed painting these guys. I started with a light brown and dry brushed various shades up to a final highlight of white. In the end I think there where about seven different layers.

The terrain board was created a few months ago. It takes an age to scribe each square, individually texture them, paint and then add snow effects. However I am very happy with the results.

Cheers
Andy

Very cool. Will you be posting game reports from your D&D adventures as well?

Yeti persisted.

I love the base boards too.  Kudos on those.

Cheers guys.

I've managed to get a few more miniatures painted. Sorry about the poor photography skills; I don't have a decent setup.

First is the adventuring party from our D&D game. It's a motley crew, most of the miniatures are Reaper, although the model on the far right is from WizKids Official D&D ranger. The reaper miniatures where a joy to paint; I wish I could say the same about the Wizkids. The detail was very poorly defined.

A pair of hobgoblins and a thief/wizard type. These three are Reaper Bones line. I have mixed feelings about the sculpts; some of the detail is a little shallow (especially with the chap in the middle). I do, however like the old-style hobgoblins.

A Hellhound. Unfortunately, the picture is pretty washed out, and I have lost some of the highlights. Still nice model.

This pair are some characters from the group; a wizard and Triton. Created on HeroForge and printed by a 3D-printing service. They aren't bad, much less detail than other miniatures. I'm not super happy with the paint jobs; again, the highlights are washed out in the picture.

Nice work! I feel your pain about not being able to get good photos  :)

I don't like the Wizkids line either - they're a bit...cartoony for my taste. Or maybe just too high fantasy. Nicely painted though, yours is.

Love the Reaper herbalist, I had to pick her up as soon as I saw her. Still in my queue...

Good stuff! I know the frustration of repeatedly trying to take a photo that really captures the painting of a mini and not getting a result that matches seeing it in person.

I have some Wizkids minis that I have not gotten to yet. A number of folks have told me they are difficult to paint well. But then a number of folks say that about Reaper Bones and that has not been my experience.
