London Transport Guardian Angels
« on: July 23, 2009, 06:01:10 PM »

Englandīs capital is in urgent need of a proper public transport system. London transport got its red AEC Routemaster doubledecker buses recently, but there is trouble coming along: The evil Reich has launched V1 flying bombs and other mean things against the city. The battle of Britain is raging and the public transport has to be protected to keep the city alive. Rocket scientists were developing the ultimate answer to the threat from above and finally produced the backpack for flying conductors to guard their bus or tube train.
Young women from all over the country volunteer for Londonīs new air service. They are chosen for light bodyweight and agility, equipped with the all new backpacklauncher and swimsuit-styled flying combinations for aerodynamic reasons. Armed with a powerful Lewis 2.0cal. repetition assault gun, they are destined to throw themselves against those flying bombs to gun them down before they reach their destinations. The girls become famous for brave and daring deeds. Nobody knows, who they really are, because they have adopted typical London Transport names, but it is rumoured that many of them are young nobles andit is said that even members of the Royal Family were taking flying lessons with those backpacks. The forces have already begun testflying them as well, yet with no good results, as the weight of a fully equipped soldier is too high. Meanwhile the men are collecting cigarette pictures of the young flying ladies...

Just nice: Paintjob, miniatures and background.

Which company are the miniatures from?

Finishing of with a quote I hope you recognize:
- No tickets!

Really nice - great minis, excellent paint-job, and a fantastic background/idea. I like the double-decker buses too! I guess they're Matchbox, or similar, but what scale?

By the way - the idea of all the young men collecting the cigarette card pictures of the girls is inspired!

Excellent!

Some inspiration if you ever decide to make the cards. These are from 1933 South Africa.

I might actually consider drawing such "trading" cards...

The Routemaster buses are different makes, but all 1/64 scale. I think they are far east copies of an old Corgi model from the 1970s. I have 12 in total of four different makes - and Iīve seen even more...

As usual Michi - excellent stuff, great idea well executed - is there no end to your imagination & talents? I for one hope not.

As well as the cigarette cards surely Vera Lyn would have released the song "There will be Blue Angels over the East End of London............." in tribute to these young ladies?

Hi Michi,
Nice to see that you're expanding your presence on the web...

I really, REALLY like these models! The bright paintjob adds just the right amount of charm and "cute" to these dames.
I hope you have a spare open-topped tourist bus. Then you could add a launch ramp to it, for these ladies.  :D

(Apparently someone left the psychic connection open again... ;) London on my brain too...)
