Photos from the roof of the world
« on: 24 July 2009, 08:21:58 AM »
Hi, there

I had a short break, and managed to fit in a trip to Nepal.  I visited the Langtang valley, north of Kathmandu and just on the edge of Tibet - the people in the area are culturally Tibetans.  Anyway, here are some photos for terrain builders to use for inspiration.  I was intrigued by the appearance of the villages and farms, with how similar they looked to Scottish farms - use this terrain for a skirmish between Younghusband's Ghurkas and some Tibetan matchlockmen, then take away the prayer flags, and the same terrain could see Rob Roy's Gregorach escaping from red coat dragoons.

This place was really great - my first thought on seeing it was "Rivendell!  Where is Elrond?"

A wee bit steeper in most cases I'd say, but youre right about the overall look.

Scheltrum Miniatures Highland cottages would look suitable for Tibetan homes too I'd think. Great pix. Thanks for posting them.

The terrain is definitely steeper in Nepal (and I'm not aware of any scottish glaciers, either, but I haven't visited the highlands, so I could be wrong about that).  But  in both countries, it will be hard to find anywhere that is as flat as most gaming tables!

No glaciers unless you are taking about the mints lol
Scotland is not that wee you can fit a flat 8' by 4' gameing table in various places, my garage for instance lol

I do agree about the buildings though very similar to old ones seen here.
But then again are you sure these were not built by Scots, we get every where :D
