Trev gets Bolshie
« on: 21 March 2020, 02:28:40 PM »
Hi all,

I have revived a long dead blog to post up some pictures of progress on my Back of Beyond project.

https://thebitsbox.blogspot.com/

I have managed to paint a few figures, nothing special in photography or painiting skill but hopefully they'll look good on the table.

I'm also working on an armoured train.

And a few conversion like this attempt to model an Anatoli Zhelezniakov type Red Sailor.

There will be more to follow is my enthusiasm and mojo holds up.

That train is positively bolshe-wicked. I can't wait to see it painted. Rather nice tones on the uniforms, too.

I had seen most of those at Studio Siberia but not that they were available in the UK.  Thanks.  I want to do some winter themed units, so those are useful.

Your figures look top notch to me!

Like the work on your train, do you have a picture before you clad it or Earlier WIP pictures.

A favourite era and conflict of mine you’re doing sterling work!

Thanks Darling  :D (and everyone else for the comments).

I didn't take any before pictures but here is a shot from eBay of what the train started life looking like.  It looks to be a near copy of the Goldlok trains available most places but quite difficult to find in the UK.  The truck couplings are slightly different but I don't have any Goldlok track to be sure about how compatible that is.

I have this set too, which has no points and one less truck but the track and truck couplings are compatible.  I'll post some more pics on the blog of the second train when I have time.  That one I'm going to do as a straight unarmoured train I think.

I have some Goldlok trucks too, whcih have different couplings but can still be joined together with the other type.

Here is the train with a basic paint job I did last night.  It's quite clean and simple at the moment, which I like but I'm not sure if it needs more detail.  Maybe some writing or posters on the sides, some red flags or a bit more weathering would add to it.  The weird colour of the fuel in the tender is supposed to be Birch logs.

And some shots taken outside.

Lastly a shot of my Red horde so far.
