Using a photo backdrop, my setup

For those interested, I photographed some figures today, and this is typical of the setup I might use.  Photo was bought off Ebay.




And after cropping etc, this is the end result.  To be honest, I could have had the photo a bit closer but I don't mind the blurry background look.

Ragnar - I missed this first time.

The blurry background is something people actively seek - often unsuccessfully .  But it would be interesting to see some photos using your background when it is not blurry. It’s an attractive backdrop which I think should be part of the photo - let’s face it, if you want the blurred background to enhance the subject, almost any background will do.

Have you got examples where that particular background is in focus?

EDIT Just found an example of what I was talking about that you posted on a different topic. Very nice...!

The idea to shoot the miniatures on an elevated grass base is very inspiring, thanks for sharing!

I use a stock photo, printed out in 60cm x 40cm size by an online printing service. It was by far the cheapest option, 7 euros with delivery. I would show my setup, but i dont know how to insert a picture here...

I can’t tell...how is the photo propped up in the OP?

Jack, the print is just naturally curved and balances there while I take the photos.  I did consider making a stand to prop it up but... it works fine as is.
