FiW Hurons and Canadians
« on: 18 April 2020, 02:37:37 PM »
Just completed my Huron/ Canadian war party for Muskets and Tomahawks - great fun to paint for my first 18th century figures.  After some debate about basing, I went for 20mm for the troops and 25mm for leaders; I decided to plump for brown bases with a few light tufts and scatter so that they would be ok on both summer and winter terrain (I used a little bit of snow scatter on the photos that you might glimpse on the bases).

Figures and painting guide used were Galloping Major.  Hoping to get a game in when this is over!

Very nice work! Galloping Major? Is there a blog or URL for that painting guide?

Thank you.  I found the painting guide incredibly useful.  It’s here:

Lovely brushwork and also the terrain is top notch James!  :-* :-* :-*

When I saw the pics on FB I thought the terrain might be First Age based.

Nice work! I never mustered the courage to do war paints on miniatures. You pulled that of nicely, so thank you also for pointing out that painting guide.

Wow! Really nicely done. I have just started collecting for this time period, 54mm, and I will use these as a measure to aspire to.

Cheers!  Although I’ve painted woad and tattoos before, I’ve never done this much war paint- I found the various painted minis out there invaluable. The M&T Redcoats and Tomahawks supplement has plenty of good examples.

I thought the flesh might have been a little more "blue" given the lack of shirts and all that snow lying around, but other than that, a splendid effort!
