I’ve put these guys off for a long time becsuse they’re so complicated and their fashion changed so much from year to year, but I’ve finally bit the bullet and commissioned 18 poses of landsknecht soldiers — 6 doppelsoldner, 6 mittelsoldner and 6 blossknechte (6 heavy armour, 6 medium armour, 6 unarmoured).
There will also be 4-6 arquebusiers and 4-6 command. I’m doing the period roughly Ravenna to Rome, so 1511-27, and I don’t recall whether large numbers of doppelsoldner with the zweihander were still being fielded in that period. If they were, I may do four poses of those, otherwise I’ll just do 1-2 poses for the command set.
To start off I had one pose sculpted, a mittelsoldner with shouldered pike. When I asked on LAF what the most popular pose was, that came in first. By the way, mittelsoldner was a term adopted after this immediate period, but it’s a handy way to describe the soldiers with some armour!
