War o Austrian Succession: Village or Bridge
« on: 11 May 2020, 04:32:28 PM »
This game has been played long before the big confinement.
I phone to my friend Greg Friday night who was willing to play with me a Honours of War WAS game.
Greg has an Austrian army and I have French. 15mm. Greg asked how many Austrians to bring with me?
I replied: -Bring ALL your army! But I had not any scenario in mind...
Even on the way to the club, I was improvising.

The initial setup

Orders of the day:
From the Supreme French commander to the Wing Commander Lieutenant-General Dinois d'Antoin, Compte de Millefeuille

"March forward with your avantgarde troops (3 light Infantry, 1 Chasseurs a cheval and 2 Hussar regiments) to control the sooner possible the village and the bridge.
Our Grenadier Brigade will cover your left flank anchoring at the farm.
Sending you one more brigade as reinforcements.
Our cavalry is coming from the east side of the bridge.
You must control the bridge from both sides!
Your task is to control either the village or the bridge until afternoon, (10 rounds), when we estimate our main forces will be there".

Orders to the Austrian Wing Commander, Feldmarshal Gregoire de Meracone

"We have information that the enemy will attempt to take control of the village and the bridge.
Send your Croats to the woods between the farm and the village.
We have superior infantry and cavalry in numbers and quality.
Engage the enemy immediately!"

And here is my avantgarde, moving full speed to control the village and the bridge...

While our cavalry is marching at the east side of the river, a sizeable Austrian cavalry force appears!
They both deploy into line...

Two Croat battalions infiltrate with the well known Croatian swiftness in the woods.
They are followed by masses of Austrian infantry in march columns!

The Fusiliers de la Morliere had to face the menace of some Austrian cavalry, so they prudently fall back behind the grenadiers.
At the background, right, the Arquebusiers de Grassin strive to contain the Croat storm.

The Chasseurs de Fischer have barricaded themselves at the cemetery behind the village

The Austrian Cavalry Wing, being more numerous, had the luxury to detach one Dragoon Regiment to watch the far side of the bridge

The French reserve brigade finally enter the table
Comte de Millefeuille faces a dilemma: Where they are needed most?
To reinforce the forces trying to take the bridge?
But his left wing is hanging on the air!

Believe it or not, Comte de Millefeuille, a man of iron will and nerves of steel, lives in his own world...

While the main cavalry forces clash, the Austrians control the other side of the bridge.
The French cannot pass.
de Millefeuille sends two hussar regiments to cross the river either side of the bridge, but they need a 5-6 to find a crossing!
Which they did not find for long  :?

The cavalry fight didn't go well for the French
The Austrians had more heavy cavalry and two French regiments are done for.
Only the Cuirassiers du Roi manage to push back some Austrian dragoons...

The French light cavalry, still thinking how they can save their colleagues at the other side of the river...
Meanwhile, dismounted Dragons de la Reine try to hold the village from the Austrian infantry and Grenzers swarming around!
