Miniatures of Famous Wargamers?
« on: 14 May 2020, 08:06:58 AM »
Anyone ever create a range of famous - or even infamous - wargamers? I do realize, of course, some rights issues for those still living but those who have passed should be easier game.  Or maybe Not Famous Wargamers, if you know what I mean?

Thanks!

The Perry Twins and Gav Thorpe were in The Return of the King and I have a feeling they were sculpted on the Mumak Base and, obviously, Peter Jackson.

Almost certainly not what you're after, but there are some lookalikes (more or less) of LAF 'celebrities' in the portfolio of Lead Adventure Miniatures. Fittingly.  ;)

These characters from Warlord Games were (loosely!) based on some of the chaps from Too Fat Lardies

Thanks for the replies but I'm thinking more along the lines of Jack Scruby, Larry Brom, Donald Featherstone, Peter Gilder (both famous and infamous?).  First requirement is they are no longer with us.

If not designed as such, perhaps figures that bear a strong resemblance?

There are a few miniatures that bear a passing resemblance to Peter Cushing, as well:
Antediluvian Miniatures has 'Peter Cushion'  https://antediluvianminiatures.wordpress.com/2016/09/26/shop-lost-world-range/

And Wargames Illustrated Giants in Miniature includes Cushing as Van Helsing:

Somewhere in the lead pile...I have a diorama in 6mm (!) of two wargamers and a table.  Think it was a show freebie.  Not sure if the two players are meant to be anyone famous though.

There's this Perry Miniatures AWI set of captured Rebel Alan Perry being interrogated by Eclaireur, Dave Brown, Brendan Morrissey and Giles Allison as to what was going to be sculpted next:

Is the HG Wells model a one off or is it available?  That is the sort of thing I am after.  He is passed on and he is certainly famous amongst wargamers.

Thanks, Black Hat.  I will have to think about that - bigger than I was hoping for and considerably more expensive than I was hoping for.  Must remember that as a 15 mm gamer, I am used to paying at most around 60 US cents per figure.  However, for my purposes with this project under consideration, I might jump.  I would certainly go the unpainted casting route if I do.
