Death in the Deepwood: Into Darkness (RoSD 1.2)
« on: May 30, 2020, 07:18:22 PM »
Hi all,

I recently wrote up the following as Pt. 1 of a 3-part foray into RoSD with a friend new to wargaming. Both being massive fluff nerds, it made sense to go heavy on the world-building and lore. So, this is a total re-skin of 'The Missing', the introductory scenario in the rulebook. Since we were going with the world I'd already built for one of my army projects, we wanted the heroes to already 'feel' like established heroes (hence making the Ranger in S1 Lvl 5). To compensate, I buffed the difficulty of both missions (the below only includes the briefing for S1 M1 - S1 M2 will follow in due course).

Has anyone else had much success with boosting difficulty levels/overall power levels in RoSD? Having played through M1 with two separate groups now I quite like the feeling of being totally outgunned right from the start. I'd really like to hear from anyone who's tried to buff the difficulty levels of Tor Varden as well!

Awesome write up and presentation! Just maybe odd that Accolon is fully recovered from "an axe takes his head from its shoulders" unless I missed something and your Ranger or the witch can do some serious chronomancy?

As far as Tor Varden is concerned I found the bottom level relatively easy because the enemies are within charge distance at setup so you can really jump on them and use the gang up bonus to your advantage. You might want to tweak that to increase difficulty but it would be anticlimactic if you didn't reach the boss? Not easy adapting difficulty!

I'm going to try to take some inspiration from your changes to see if i can tweak it too for another ranger ^.^

Heh stumbled into your other thread with the report and was thinking “strange nobody else noticed about the head chopped off thing” so I read that bit again ... and realized I read it wrong! My bad ... where's the embarrased emoji scratching the back of his head?

You've got a point, it's poorly phrased! Your second reading was right, it was meant to be a "last second save" type moment (which is ALMOST how it played out in-game, heh :P ) but I could have phrased it better. Thanks for the spot, I'll be sure to line edit more carefully with the next iteration :)

Good shout about Tor Varden. Thanks for that. I'm looking at whether to keep the undead as 'gnolls' ruleswise or to run them as something else. Depending on how the physical setup for the map goes, I can see it going either way right now.

Absolutely brilliant, great storytelling.

Cheers! :)

:D awesome!!!

Thanks a lot! I'm definitely learning a lot through the whole process.

Where are those walking terrors from? They're awesome and not figures I've seen before.

Wonder if the Great Mother is happy or angry about this outcome.
