Aeronef - Martian Fleets?
« on: 29 June 2020, 11:31:24 PM »
Hi all,

I’m doing some advance work for my 2021 project and have been bitten by the VSF bug!

I'm planning an Aeronef project built around the Brigade Models’ Aeronef range, I’ve decided to move the battles from a picturesque 19th Century Europe, to the barren Martian deserts. There’s plenty of opportunity for clashes between humanity, but I’m thinking I’d like to try human v Martian battles on the red planet.

Does anyone know any suitable sources for Martian/Alien Aeronef fleets in 1/1200(ish) scale?

Cheers,
Splod

I was going to look at doing some smaller scale skiffs following the style of the ones I did for Red Planet Miniatures but nothing came of it.

Tempting to have a look properly though  :)

What do Martian vessels look like though?

If you want the "classic" 1889 look then the iffy plastic models from the "Sky Galleons of Mars" game crop up on ebay from time to time as (increasingly rarely) do the lovely Houstons/GameTech and Lyzards Grin metal versions.

But, like all Aeronef models, they are ridiculously simple to scratchbuild. Plenty of images online and the GDW deckplans are available via Wargame Vault downloads.

I did this one a few years back as a merchant/trade kite for my Cloudships games. Laminations of plastic card cut and sanded to shape with wire masts and spars. Probably should redo the sails though  :?
