Shadow Apes, by Forge of Ice.
« on: 03 July 2020, 02:21:22 PM »
I've put these babies here, because I'm told they are to be part of a weird pulp sci-fi range later in the year (although they're not on sale yet). I could have put them in 'Fantasy' or 'Sci-Fi', but 'Pulp' it is.

Fans of He-Man may recognise the Shadow Apes/Beasts. Some pictures of them are grey-ish, but the one I worked from showed them as a rusty-red colour.

Very cool. Who was the sculptor? Any idea?

Pulp is as good a place as any, looking at them. They could be good as a yeti type beast too. Are you allowed to say any more about the range they are going to be in?

I am happy to answer questions ... except I don't know the answers. Forge of Ice is a one-man band in Alaska making great quirky models and he told me he is currently desperately trying to fulfil an overdue Kickstarter which has been delayed due to recent events, and then these Shadow Apes will be part of a range of beasts and characters coming out (hopefully) before the end of the year.

Don't know the sculptor, but they're very nice aren't they? They're big old boys, standing 40mm tall and a great mix of chunky musculature and delicate details. I thought they'd do well as Yetis as well, strangely enough, but also any kind of alien or supernatural heavy, depending on the paintjob.

EDIT: Also, one more thing (don't know if this is important or not), they come with separate heads and a hollow in the neck to glue them in. This allows a wide range of head positions and it's a good snug fit, not needing pinning. I did use some putty just to smooth the join though, otherwise there would be a deep crease round it. Not the biggest modelling job in truth, and I'm sure it's not something to make anyone clutch their pearls, but I thought I'd share.

Cool sculpts and a fantastic paint job.   Forge Of Ice has some fun and quirky figures.

I love them! I'm still waiting on the Cyclops KS from him, so hoping I can add these Shadow Apes and some of his Pterro-Men to my pledge. They're perfect for my Martian VSF project  :D
