Looking for standing horses in 1:72/20mm
« on: 08 July 2020, 06:38:44 PM »
What it says really, I'd like to do some US Cavalry stuff with my plastic soldiers, but the horses are always charging around, so I'd like some who are just standing (head up or down), so I can do some interesting poses of troopers scouting, firing, or holding horses. I did make one myself by chopping, repositioning and resculpting the legs from a plastic horse, but it was a ball-ache I'd rather not repeat.

Anyone got any recommendations? I don't mind metal, plastic or resin, so long as they're relatively compatible with the 1:72 plastics.

There are ten fairly static horses in this Strelets set.  Check out Plastic Soldier Review.

That's a great shout, thanks. I love PSR and I did genuinely look for options on there, but I hate the Strelets sculpting style so I skipped it! The horses look fine though, exactly what I was after, thanks.

EDIT: Seems to be a little tricky finding them in the UK. I'll keep trying though. They're a newish release I think so it may be a while before they filter in to the model shops here.

How many do you need?
I may have some from either Tumbling Dice or Newline Designs and probably the odd plastic one.

Well that's very kind. I'm thinking maybe 10-20? Or if you don't have that many, just whatever you have would be great.

Cubs,
I didn’t realize you were in the UK.  Aren’t there any plastic set stockiest?  I think PSR has a page of links to dealer sites.

Newline Horses with horse holders are a good option for getting some standing horses (I got a pack for that exact purpose), but 20 identical mares may look a little odd. ;)

Making the same model horse look varied is easy - just paint them differently.  Won't completely disguise the core model but it won't be immediately obvious to the casual viewer.
