Kind of an inside joke based on TMP, where in the members-only area there is a thread with over 20,000 replies, and still going. And so begins my sordid tale of woe and blame and finger pointing.

Some fellow calling himself "Polynikes" started a thread called "Contains WHAT?" where he started ranting about something on TV. Since TMP doesn't have an erase/edit function on posts (or didn't at the time), he immediately decided that instead of whining about television, he wanted to play Never-Get-Started-Monopoly. You play this game by picking a piece for the game (such as the dog or the car.) The next player picks the piece you just picked, so you pick another one. The next player picks that piece.* Two turns of the game therefore go like this:

Player 1: I want to be the dog.
Player 2: No, I want to be the dog.
Player 1: Fine, I'll be the car.
Player 2: No, I want to be the car.

In the course of the game, the pieces involved became more and more esoteric, eventually segueing into pieces from an unseen Tintin edition. At that point, the mummified remains of Rascar Capac were claimed. Shortly thereafter, Steve Prefontaine was claimed by the same individual, and not long after that, a new piece, the Mummified Remains of Steve Prefontaine were claimed.

At that point, the Polynikes individual switched his icon to Steve Prefontaine.

Unfamiliar with Mr. Prefontaine, I remarked that it looked like Sean Connery in Zardoz.

And someone asked: "What's Zardoz?"

And the world was never the same after that.

I will return this thread to its proper function in exchange for Kinmont Willie and a dozen fine border cattle.

*: Keep in mind that "Mornington Crescent" was also invented in Greater Britain

It does rather look like Rascar Capac/Steve Prefontaine.

But a 1970s British bawdy-comedy effeminate/homosexual version, judging by the way he's clutching his handbag while pulling his jib.  :)

(Being sensible for a minute, Rascar Capac is the Inca Mummy from the Tintin adventure "The Seven Crystal Balls.")

Brrr. I had to skip the pages featuring Rascar Capac when I was a kid. These days I have a RC fridge magnet which helps me wake up in the mornings.

Perhaps I should be thankful I don't have a sponsoring membership at TMP anymore. I refused to get a new one after my old account simply vanished into thin air with a month of sponsorship left. That's also how I got my somewhat odd moniker at that forum, "Rhoderic III and counting". When "Rhoderic" vanished I created "Rhoderic II" which also vanished. I'm sure Bill has it in for me :)

Which reminds me, I should really get around to becoming a sponsoring member here, instead.

There's a thread with it on TAGs forum, i don't know if pete was going to add it to the freebie range or something like that :)
