Figure request: The Thirteenth Warrior...
« on: March 21, 2007, 08:20:49 PM »
Couldn't help it, I always liked this movie.

"That dog can jump!"

Anyway, does anyone know of a company that made some figures based on the characters of this movie? Or figures that resemble them?

That's a great question that I wish I had an answer to. I think most people will point you toward Viking and Celt/Pict models (with an arab thrown in).

This was the first movie I went to with my future wife. She says she should have known she was in for trouble because of that.

Yep foundry are the best vikings for you, they are nice sculpts and have a bit of a fantasy feel to them. There are a few odd models in the range with gear on them e.g. bows on their backs, platearmour  breast plate etc

the problem will be that why wore some weird gear in the film including a Gladiators helmet!!! also viking without facial hair could be hard to find

Fantasy ranges are your best bet

I loved the film too.

The first film I took my wife to was Judge Dredd :P and she didnt learn either, infact I hadnt gamed for 2-3 years and she said "why not have a go at it" heehee

I agree with the professor and everybody else on this one.  However, David Soderquist at Bronze Age Miniatures (actually, he is Bronze Age Miniatures, as there isn't anybody else in the company yet) is about to sculpt some Vikings, per his announcement on the Bronze Age Miniatures Yahoo Group.  You should join the Yahoo Group and post a request that he do some figures that would be close enough to characters in the Thirteenth Warrior for you to adapt them for a game (but not so close as to get into intellectual property trouble... ).  He sculps great female figures too.

QT used to do multipart figures - seperate weapons & shields but also seperate heads - that might have at least made the gladiator helmet easier. I think the moulds were picked up by Amazon miniatures.

They actually had some orc heads which looked quite good on their ancient egyptian bodies for a different alien look.
