Mack's not-so-mecha stuff
« on: 12 September 2020, 06:15:11 PM »
Generally you'll find me building Gunpla a plenty,  but I've taken a big interest in the tanks of WW2 and other ground vehicles.  So I started small with a Willys jeep I've been working on. I will be fitting the 30.cal boomstick and taking a gunner from one of my Sherman kits to put in the back on it.

I've been doing work on this Jeep all weekend. For Saturday's work I finished painting and assembing the main body and driver.

I have near enough finished the Jeep at this point, just need to get some decalfix to apply some waterslides to it and then I can move on to my next project; a 1/35 Sherman early type customised as 'Lucy Sue' from the movie 'Fury'.

The Sherman shall have to wait,  instead I'm going to put together this little beauty that arrived today!

Will do, Pete! I took the opportunity in the good weather to prime the Sherman and Tiger 1 anyway, but that way I can work on them in my own time. For now I intend to try using that blue wash you gave me on these gunners to test how it looks on grey uniform creases!

I've been doing some work on Lucy Sue today.  Part of the way through base assembly I realised that the rear plate is a custom piece with extended coverage over the exhausts. So I used some plastic plate and green putty to cut an extension for it.

Tonight's progress on Lucy Sue.  I need to build Roy Davis next and start working on the paint and the accessories on the tank.

My weekend progress on Lucy Sue. I've got all the packs and armour added, I couldn't use the sticks I had for the unditching logs so I resorted to using the sprues of my Gundam beam saber runners instead.  Considering this is being airbrushed in the coming days I don't think it'll be much of a hindrance.

Just bought some AFV Club 1/35 Tiger 1 treads. I'm all for taking my time with kits, but gluing together every single tread on a kit seems a bit tedious for my liking!

Lucy Sue is in for her first coat of paint in my newly built spray booth. Simple cardboard box,  some filters and a fan at the rear with more filters to catch residue.

After a long and stressful day,  I decided to wind down by working on the treads for Lucy Sue and Roy Davis. Not my best work,  but I can touch up on it further tomorrow.

Start of my weekend has involved Lucy Sue's second coat of green paint. Once this dries she needs her camouflage added and then it's down to detailing and adding the tarp to finish it!
