Simple WWII Skirmish Rules Recommendations
« on: 18 September 2020, 06:02:05 PM »
Looking for simple WW II skirmish rules from squad level to slightly larger. I haven't found anything that works for me but have read/tried a lot. Thanks if you can help!

Chain of Command by TooFatLardies. Wouldn‘t call it simple but straight forward. Needs some getting used to when coming from a more „conventional“ background.

Bolt Action or Chain of Command are both good WW II platoon level rules

you might want to try Landser, a free rules set on the free wargames rules wiki. Nuts, by Two Hour Wargames is fun as well.

You said you want 'simple', doesn't come simpler than Neil Thomas's WW2 rule set!

CoC is great but not simple.  To drop down a level of complexity, try Men Under Fire by Test of Battle games.

Nuts! by Two Hour Wargames: https://www.twohourwargames.com/historical1.html
Play solo, co-op or vs another player.

Chain of Command by the Lardies is also very good: https://toofatlardies.co.uk/product-category/chain-of-command/

Five Men from Normandy or Company Command from Nordic Weasel Games are also good options: https://www.wargamevault.com/browse/pub/5701/Nordic-Weasel-Games

Enjoy!

PBI from Peter Pig isn't squad level, the game works with one company per player, but the rules are simple enough that I use them with a school club.
In part because the game works with squares, so no arguments over measuring ranges or measuring movement, also no arguments about cover - squares are open, partial-cover, or heavy cover. Whatever cover is in the square, any figures in that square are in it.

There is a free test version (PBI quick start) which has the basics:

Gary, Glynis, and Alasdair (there are three of us, but we are too mean to have more than one login)

Love me some CoC.. but, it's not what I would call "simple".
Bolt Action is.. "WW2" in name only... but somewhat "simple".
1hour skirmish Wargame by John Lambshead is great.
Fistful of Lead is my groups current 'go to' for damn near everything.. so I'm sure we will use it for WW2 soon.

Cool. Thanks. I didn't no Peter Pig had a rule set.

They have lots of rule sets for different eras.
The Spanish Civil War & Vietnam sets work well, the ECW & WoTR ones are both good, haven't tried the Western or Pirate sets.

If you want to go old school, I see that Rapid Fire seem to have been re-released.
