Goodbye to the Perfect Captain's Web Site
« on: September 24, 2020, 10:54:39 AM »
Hi all,

I saw on Jim's Wargames Workbench that the Perfect Captain web site is closing down soon.

Probably the files will be re-hosted somewhere but it might be worth a last look, especially the Red Actions pages for us on this board.

The news comes from a post of the PC facebook page.

If you can't see the FB page there is an image below from Leadhead's blog.

Although the rules sets were probably more inspiring than regularly played by most, I think the good Captain deserves a fond farewell.

Sorry to see this and sorry there has been no replies. I do have to say I downloaded the rules, read them and like them but have yet to bring them to the table. In my case before I start a new period I want to play a game or two using counters the size of the bases, just to see if the interest is there. I also downloaded Mark Plant's (sorry if I am wrong I am doing this from memory) variant and thought it had a lot to offer. I also downloaded the campaign system/scenario generator Beyond the River Don(?) and like the looks of that as well. With the lockdown even finding an opponent at the local club is out of the question for now.

Oh, I forgot to mention this is with respect to Red Actions only. That is the only game I downloaded and found of interest. Not that the others may not be good, just area of interest.

A really sad loss snd I’m hugely appreciative of all the ideas and inspiration provided over the years.

I'm very sorry to hear this. I hope that The Perfect Captain is bowing out with pride as such rules as Very Civil Actions and A Coat of Steel have been of the very highest quality and the games I have played with said rules have been top class.

I’d like to echo all the above sentiments and thank the organisers for their contributions to the hobby. The campaign system interested me . Always sad to see a good resource close down .
