Medium Paced and Based Afghan Tribesmen (Perry's)
« on: 09 October 2020, 05:08:49 PM »
These little fellows were meant to be based a few weeks ago but I managed to lose them! They were found again wrapped in bubble wrap right under my nose. Literally under my nose as they were wrapped in bubble wrap in a small box under my painting table!

As usual more pics including single bases from different angles and associated blurb can be found on my blog here:

Without further ado here are the pics:

Noice!

I'm not all that familiar with NWF ranges, are these the new plastics we've been hearing all about, or the metal ones that have been around for a while? ( or indeed both?)

These are metal Perries, Dylan.

Great work Darrell. I love the forward motion. Each base is a tasty little vignette  :-*

Nice!  :-*

Indeed.

I am really starting to like this form of basing, especially for irregulars.

Thanks, Richard.

You are right about them being lovely little vignettes of motion. Really seems like they are rushing headlong at Thomas J. Atkins.  Feel like chucking my Martini and legging it! :)

Gorgeous painting, love your warm vibrant colour schemes. I’d be panicking like nuts if I mislaid these little beauties !!!!

Thanks guys :)

I am really starting to like this form of basing, especially for irregulars.

The idea was taken from the Up the Nile rules. All irregulars are on round bases. Glad you like the look of them this way.

Thanks, Richard.

 lol

Yeah, they're the Perry metals Plynkes. I've got plenty of plastic's made up but they have been withdrawn to the back of the painting queue unfortunately- until I can figure out a way in which to paint them a little faster [desperately resisting the urge to estimate the total number of Perry Afghan's he has to paint up!]

Your painting keeps improving. These beauties really shine (that is for hairy hill men  lol).
Got to kick at the darkness till it bleeds daylight.

Those are breathtaking. Like others have said, you've done an excellent job with your colours and basing. One question: did you find the flash and clean-up/prep needed on these figures excessive? I've heard bad things about them. It's sad if true, because the sculpts are really top notch.

On this batch no- none, but I say this with the proviso that I bought the above metals as soon as they were released a few years back. I bought an extra couple of packs and they weren't so pretty in terms of extra metal. It's not flash, it's where the moulds have been torn of 'chipped'.

Cheers, I think that the composition has worked best on the command stand. It was a bit difficult to make the mini's 'talk' as they're all sprinting like a bat out of hell  lol

Very impressive.   :)

Really like the basing, as others have said.  What size are they?  (Might try something similar myself one day.   ::) )

They're 50mm in diameter. They would work just as well on 60mm bases but as the regulars will be on 50mm x 50mm square bases I just went with that. Larger bases would allow for a more 'vignette' look, which I really like but then they would be at odd for the regulars and combat might get messy.

WOW! Amazing brushwork! As stated, each base is a beautiful vignette!
Now please tell me about the flag....

Inspirational, I’m going to sneak in a bit of work today on my 2nd Afghan War Ghazi unit I’m building.

That's a real shame. The Perry's have some lovely figures but pretty much across the board they seem to be plagued with poor casting issues. I've heard the samurai are a nightmare!
