One Hour Wargames solo Napoleonics (second game added 27/10)
« on: 26 October 2020, 10:36:21 AM »
Lockdown has robbed me of real live opponents, so I decided to dig out the Napoloenic troops and Neil Thomas' One Hour Wargames for a quick solo game.

The rules are very simple (ideal for my simple brain) and fun. Just what i needed to scratch a gaming itch.

More pictures and a few words to describe the action over on my blog:

I'm a big fan of OHW rules, and was a tad upset to read on Facebollix that the author is thought to have passed away? If that's true, I reckon in time, he will be ranked up there with Charles Grant and Donald Featherstone for his contribution to our hobby

"Wot did you do in the war Grandad?"

"I was with Harry... At The Bridge!"

How's this for a cunning OHW plan T...

Scenario 3:- Control the River

British
6. Infantry units
2. Light infantry units
1. Cavalry unit

French
6. Infantry units.
2. Light infantry units
1. Cannon

I've already deployed the British to take the river crossings. You're Marshal Ney, deploy the Frenchies and give me a general outline of yer plan, I'll fight the battle.
House rules let the General join a wavering unit and rally off a D6 worth of hits. He then stays with the unit, taking a risk of getting nobbled, till it routs then he can inflict himself on someone else! I'll use a set of OHW chance cards for each side, and bung the AAR on here when the dust settles?

:)

Lovely stuff.  Have been playing the variants throughout lockdown and they give as good a ‘realistic’ result in the time to much more complex systems so have played and with much more fun!  Simple and small enough to play over a video link with a mate.  We have made a few minor tweaks based on some web appropriated ideas and one or two of our own to add ‘period’ feel to sub sections but overall they are a marvellous tonic, fun and NT is an unsung hero for taking us back to basics...
