Dark Ages Fantasy [the Wild Hunt 25/12]
« on: 14 November 2020, 09:13:23 PM »
I've been painting a bit since Oathmark came out. Got together with a few mates and we actually played a game to try it out. Which is excellent because I collect and paint miniatures for over thirty years but the last time I have tried a game I was sixteen years old. In any case a good reason to actually finish entire units.
I love the fact that Oathmark has hardly any set background and all the talking about the new undead supplement made me reconsider some old miniatures
Here's my take on the undead.

Revenant King (painted many years ago)

Old mad Slough Feg. another revenant I guess.

I'm planning to make my own ghouls using Foundry naked Spartan hoplites, tribal africans and ancient germans. I had these old Pict fanatics lying around to see if it could work.
Insane degenerate cannibals.

I also finished these Chaos Warriors I started when Frostgrave came out.

More rambling and ghoul-theory on my blog ->

Great stuff, especially the albino cannibals. Where’s your blog?

Using naked ancients as ghouls is a great idea!

fantastic stuff. Love the idea of the cannibals, I might have to do that with some of my leftover fanatics.

Strong Bone Tomahawk vibes from those ghouls, even tough they're not match!

Great Idea for a project, reminds me of some of the fluff written for WFB about the battles of Sigmar.

That was actually a surprisingly good movie. And those ghouls definitely remind me of the cannibals from the movie.

It was. I think you'd get most out of it if you didn't y'know, KNOW before you watched it. Which I've already ruined for everyone in this thread hah! Well worth a watch in any case.

I tried out a new technique to paint old bronze.

These are some of the few Foundry ancient germans with helmets. They are evil brigands and grave-robbers. Situated in a dark ages setting I suppose the old Roman and celtic helmets and armour were taken from ancient burial mounds.
Allied with ghouls and possibly even revenant peat-bog bodies. I imagine them nasty bastards a bit like the barbarians in Moorcock's Corum.

Same thing with the beastman. The helmet, shoulderplates and jewelry are beaten bronze while the chainmail and axe are rusty iron, in ancient celtic fashion.
