My first buildings for a 28mm "The last kingdom" project















The church is from St John Church, Escomb

How did you manage to sculpt the thatch? Is it Milliput or something else?

Hi !

Feather-board for walls
Balsa and PVC for wood
Air diying clay for the roof (Hall) or cardboard (Church)
Depron 3mm for the big stones and bricks

And a lot of work !

I used a little amount of water to facilitate the work on air diying clay

Thanks, all taken on board as I'm planning on doing some Early Medieval buildings myself. About twenty years ago I had one manufactured by the now (closed) Stronghold Miniatures (from Lothian). The model was let down by the thatch but after seeing your work my enthusiasm is reinvigorated.

And a lot of work !

I bet! But 100% worth the effort!  8)

I regret the disappearance of Stronghold, they were doing very interesting things, especially for Sengoku Jidai!

Yes it's hard work (like most handmade decors I think) but it's worth it!

Oh important thing: I use Gesso for the finishes: the rendering on Depron or air diying clay is perfect and moreover it is a perfect primer for painting!

On stones, you have to tap with the brush for a more natural rendering ...

And the gesso costs 3 times nothing, just like the hardening modeling clay (prefer the DAS which is easier to work than the Giotto)

Something I am not in short supply of.  I still have a huge container of white gesso left over from uni.

I tend to use black gesso for undercoating miniatures after priming too.

What figures do you plan on using for the main characters  (Utreth and his gang)?

Hi !

No it's more the time, the period, the long conflict between Saxons and Danes recounted in "The last Kingdom" that we are going to play, we are not going to play "the" Uthred of The last Kingdom.

I'm working on an adaptation of "Dux Britanniorum" by Too Fat Lardies, with an adapted campaign map (I will do a subject on that)
