Latest Arquebusier published
« on: 25 November 2020, 10:19:45 AM »
The latest issue of the society's magazine has been arriving over the last few days.

It has articles on the Polish-Lithuanian army in 1683, on the Caracole tactics, British infantry organisation 1703-14, the colour of ECW guns, the Isle of Wight in 1625 and a scenario for the battle of Seneffe using the Twilight of Divine Right rules. This along with some excellent book reviews results in another first class issue of the magazine.

Codsticker, I agree. I was a member of the Society of Ancients for over 40 years but finally gave up when I realised I wasn't reading much of the content at all. I might give the Pike and Shot Society another go.

The Caracole article is very good, as is the ‘paint your wagon’ one.  I highly recommend it. All the sorts of history stuff I crave as a Renaissance wargamer.

Could be tempted by the ECW guns article. By 'guns' do you mean artillery? If it is artillery I wonder what new sources have been found, or is it a rehash of Vol XXXV 2017 - Stephen Ede-Borrett's short article "The Colour of English Ordinance during the  17th and Early 18th Centuries"? (Which for cheapskates appears as a PDF on their Facebook page, needs some considerable downwards scrolling I'm afraid)
www.keepyourpowderdry.co.uk gaming the British Civil Wars in 15mm, and home of the ECW travelogue - dreadful painting, mediocre prose

Do they sell back issues of the Arquebusier magazine and if so where do you find them?

Radar: The article was inspired by the older article you mention. It is by Simon Marsh, an author with an extensive collection of primary sources - including an excellent book from the Parliamentary artillery from the society. The article details the information contained in the papers about the colour of the artillery in addition to other available information.

Manic_miner: The society does sell back issues but only has a limited supply. Contact the society https://www.pikeandshotsociety.org/
