19802 Dutch Armour Colours
« on: 30 November 2020, 06:01:10 AM »
I am just starting a small project to build a Dutch armoured force from the early 1980s for use with the "Seven Days to the River Rhine" rules. I have acquired Leopard 1s and YPR765 APCs but am now wondering what colour to paint them. Looking at photos they appear to be in a solid dark olive green colour. Can anyone confirm this and recommend a paint to use ( eg from the Vallejo range).

Thanks.

Chaps, thanks for the advice. My local “bricks and mortar” shop that sells Revell Aquacolor should re-open this week.

Can you clarify the paint though. Looking at a website number 46 is NATO Olive with Yellow Olive being number 42.

 Thanks

There is a truly bewildering array of NATO olive greens and to be honest, they all look much the same.  RAL 6014 being a bit more brownish than the rest.  Poor colour-reproduction in photos also help to confuse the issue.  I've seen Dutch (and especially West German, which were stationed near me) military vehicles in real life and my opinion, it looks very much the same as WW2 US Olive Drab, so that's what I use.

46 is correct, never mind what Revell names it.

Yes, that's often the way.

Chaps, many thanks. I just hope the local shop has it in stock when I visit.  I'm quite looking forward to painting the Dutch.

Actually you can simply mix black and ochre to get the desired shade too.
